Kevin Chua's Taxi Review

"This is our 3rd family holiday in Seoul for the past 5 years. The taxi service has become very bad! They ripped u off totally. On 26 Dec 2014 at around 9pm, outside our IBIS Hotel, all the yellow taxis wanted to charge us 30,000 won from Myeongdong to Dongdemun night market, a five-min ride and meter fare would be less than 5,000 won. We decided to take subway there, and it was fuss-free. At 2.30am 27 Dec 2014, we tried to hail a cab to go back to IBIS. All the yellow cabs are in cahoot & wanted 30,000 won. It's zero degree and I have 2 young kids with me. I bargained to 20,000 won. The driver demanded me to pay first, if not he told us to get out. I managed to take a taxi of his face, & a blurred picture of the cab as he sped off at full speed after alighting us. Seem like the Korean authority is not doing anything. I am writing to any official Korean channel after writing here."

Santy Oktariana Parker's Taxi Review

"Be careful for foreign tourists especially who are expecting to take a taxi from Namsan Tower to wherever your next destination is. I and my relatives have been overcharged 30,000 won from Namsan Tower - Cable car, back to our hotel in Jongno. It only cost us 5600 won from our hotel to Namsan tower but it cost 5x more to go back. The excuse was, late night fare which was rediculous as it was only 9.46 pm. All the taxis there seem to have the same method 'robbing' your wallet. We took 2 taxis there. Both of the taxi drivers charged us the same. And they didn't even drop us in front of the hotel. The drivers could speak English. So they understand you. They didn't use meter and no receipt. And you didn't even have a chance to take a picture of the taxi. Just be aware. This is my second time in South Korea but this time really leave me a bad experience. Never ever take a taxi if the driver doesn't turn on the meters. Ask for receipt so if something happens you can report it. And also try to remember the license number and the Korean name in front on the numbers as it will be helpful. We only remember the numbers unfortunately."
